Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr., the 38th President of the United States, served from August 9, 1974, to January 20, 1977. During his presidency, Ford exercised clemency powers including the controversial pardon of former President Richard Nixon on September 8, 1974, for any crimes he may have committed while in office. Ford also granted conditional clemency to Vietnam War draft evaders and military deserters through the Presidential Clemency Board established in 1974.
